SUNYLA Conference Chair’s Welcome
I am very excited that you have joined us for this year’s virtual annual conference. Although I miss seeing everyone in person, I hope you will take advantage of the many fun networking opportunities that the Conference Committee has built in to this year’s conference. SUNYLA is, by far, my most favorite professional event of the year. I always end the week feeling energized and creatively refreshed. Knowing that this year has been one of many ups and downs, I hope that at this year’s conference the seeds of hope and creativity will begin to germinate and help you to feel ready to face the year ahead.
I would like to take a moment to thank our vendors, who so generously support this conference each year, and without whose support we would not be able to have subsidized the cost of the conference so significantly for attendees. Please take a few moments to visit their websites, and thank your representatives the next time you speak with them.
I would also be remiss if I did not thank my Conference Planning Team, all of whom have spent time out of their busy work schedules to help come up with a great program for you. Carol Anne Germain, Logan Rath, Christina Hilburger thank you so much for your time and attention to the details behind the scenes. Jocelyn Ireland, Keri Thomas-Whiteside, and Andrea Kingston – thank you all for stepping up and chairing subcommittees. Katelyn Baroody, although we didn’t get to highlight our local the way we wanted to, you still did an amazing job on bringing the Local Arrangements to the conference!
Take advantage of the many sessions and workshops, and don’t miss out on the social activities each evening and sprinkled in between some of our sessions. While we may not be together in person, know that the support, friendship, and peer-to-peer learning that will take place will still be memorable.
Respectfully,
Carrie Fishner
SUNYLA 2nd Vice President & Conference Chair
Local Arrangements Chair’s Welcome
Greetings, SUNYLA!
I’m thrilled to welcome you to our virtual conference and hope you’re excited for all of the learning and fun we have in store over the next few days. We’re sad we aren’t welcoming you in person on the SUNY Delhi campus this week, but we’ve tried to infuse the conference with some of the things that make our college great!
Start your conference off right by watching the conference welcome video, where we highlight a few of the awesome things that make Delhi unique. One advantage to an online conference is that you don’t have to choose between excursions – let us show you them all at lightning speed! Catskills, golfing, and goats – oh my!
EBSCO has graciously sponsored our social events on Wednesday evening, so be sure to sign up for Jackbox Games, Among Us, or Crochet as Self Care. Not one for games? A Zoom room will also be available for those who just wish to socialize and chat.
Thursday you can look forward to a full day of conference sessions and other enrichment. We’re offering Cooking in the Catskills, where one of our talented chefs will showcase delicious local produce and other foods while creating a perfect summer meal. Be sure to tune in again Thursday afternoon during the poster sessions, where she’ll show you how to create your own signature cocktail and a tasty bar snack! Need a break? Check the conference schedule for Chair Yoga sessions. Social events will be running again Thursday night, this time with Virtual Trivia and a classic Show & Tell session.
Throughout the conference, be on the lookout for Blaze, the SUNY Delhi bronco mascot! You may spot him in the background of presentations and workshops. Keep track of the sessions where you see him, and email your list to baroodke@delhi.edu by Friday at 6 PM for your chance to win! You can also learn more about Delhi through our Virtual Scavenger Hunt. Put those librarian search skills to the test for another opportunity to win a prize!
All in all, we’re in for some fun. I hope you all get the chance to learn something new, connect with your SUNYLA friends both new and old, and make wonderful memories!

SUNYLA President’s Welcome
Welcome to SUNYLA 2021!
Whether this is your first SUNYLA or your 53rd, SUNYLA is sure to please. Over the last twenty-four years, I have attended all but two SUNYLA conferences. Each year, I look forward to these annual meetings because I learn, share, and have fun at them – yes SUNYLA conferences are FUN!
Through SUNYLA conferences you can develop long lasting relationships because collegiality is strong. Some of my oldest professional connections were seeded at SUNYLA and SUNYLA-related events. Take advantage of the great programs, the variety of social events, and the ability to make new and forever friends.
I would be remiss if I did not extend an enormous thank you to SUNY Delhi, Carrie Fishner (conference chair), and the Conference Planning and “Local” Arrangements Committees. Coordinating a conference is no easy task – and these guys did a great job. Additionally, I would like to thank our vendors who help to make this an affordable conference. Enjoy the conference and start the newest SUNYLA memories!
